Position: Industrial Painter Schedule: Six or Seven 10-hour shifts per week, depending on the week (60-70 hours per week) Summary: Including but not limited to: We are seeking an experienced industrial painter to join our Travel team. The painter will be responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing structural steel components & Tanks to meet customer specifications, quality standards, and project deadlines. Job Duties: Including but not limited to: Prepare structural steel and fabricated metal parts for coating, including cleaning, grinding, sanding, masking, and minor surface repairs. Mix, thin, and adjust paints, primers, and coatings (including epoxy and polyurethane systems) per manufacturer specifications and job requirements. Apply coatings using spray equipment (airless, conventional, or HVLP), brushes, and rollers to achieve required mil thickness and coverage. Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, and paint specifications (color, system, DFT requirements, and inspection criteria). Set up, operate, and maintain paint booth, spray equipment, hoses, pumps, and related tools safely and efficiently. Perform basic quality checks, including visual inspection and dry film thickness measurements, ensuring compliance with internal and customer standards. Identify, report, and correct coating defects such as runs, sags, dry spray, pinholes, or poor adhesion. Handle and store paints, solvents, and coatings according to safety, environmental, and manufacturer guidelines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including housekeeping in the paint booth and surrounding prep areas. Assist with loading/unloading, moving, and staging steel using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment (as trained). Complete production paperwork and labels accurately, including part numbers, colors, and batch information. Collaborate with supervisors, fitters, welders, and quality inspectors to meet schedule and quality expectations. Basic Requirements & Qualifications: Including but not limited to: Previous experience as an industrial painter, fabrication painter, or structural steel painter in a shop or manufacturing environment. MUST have experience preparing, coating, and finishing tanks and curved metal surfaces. Familiarity with spray painting equipment, techniques, and troubleshooting. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, work orders, and basic drawings. Basic understanding of coating systems, surface preparation, and film thickness requirements. Strong attention to detail, quality-minded, and able to work efficiently to meet deadlines. Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to lbs regularly and work in a production shop environment. Willingness to wear required PPE, including respirator, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
